Triumph TR3A (1960) - The Pure British Roadster, Ready for Adventure
The Triumph TR3A: Guaranteed Smiles
The Triumph TR3A is one of the most charismatic and successful models in the iconic TR (Triumph Roadster) lineage. Launched in the late 1950s, the TR3A perfected its predecessor's formula with its famous full-width grille, exterior door handles, and a robust, torquey 2.0-litre engine. It was one of the first British sports cars to offer front disc brakes as standard, a huge advantage in performance and safety. With its low-slung design, cutaway doors, and a pure, unfiltered driving experience, the TR3A offers one of the most authentic and fun experiences behind the wheel of a classic.
Our Story with This Car
I had been looking for a TR3 for a while. Many were unfinished projects or questionable restorations that made me wary. I wanted a driver's car, an example that had been loved and, more importantly, driven. I found this one in Spain, and it was exactly that. It was an older restoration, but it had been impeccably maintained by an enthusiast who regularly participated in classic tours across Spain, as the badges on the grille attest.
What I love most are the cutaway doors. Driving it is an experience halfway between a car and a motorcycle, completely immersive. With the throaty sound of its big four-cylinder engine, every trip, no matter how short, becomes an adventure. It's a hard car to let go of, but the collection needs to be reduced. It's time for someone else to continue adding rally plaques to the grille.
